To Take Command

Lies in layers lie in wait to lay the lion-tamer low
But still the show does not go on till he goes on the show
Friends and foes in force do fly and face the fierce retort
Of Fire’s glow; the fighter’s show is brilliant but short

With white walls, windows, words amidst us;
we were the width and breadth of the world
a dozen dimensions of undivided devotion of focus
folded into a knot of longing between us
tugging souls into eachother’s orbit

Her gaze boring a hole through wholeness
a hungry void inhaling my heart wholly

Even then, from opposite poles of the planet,
we belonged to the same space
the sediment of our sentiments cemented together

Never a hint of hesitance then or now
Like we’d already dated each other’s dreams for a decade
First date awkwardness a fleeting wisp, haunting other’s nightmares
no place in our private plane of reality

There was no queue to wait out, no Ps and Qs to mind
Just cues in hand, then hand in hand, a cue that it was time
to trade the pub for the park, the bright for the sensuous dark
and enter irreverantly, irrevocably into shared understanding
that opposites may attract, sure,
but similar souls are inseparable
a cosmically fundamental bond that will persist
through the blazing, apocalyptic end of all else that exists
or even
feeble
impotent
meaningless
distance
and time.
